Digital 3d Zbrush Scupting and Modeling for Animation and Games

Well it has been a few months since my last blog posts to this blog and these groups, but since that time I have now developed yet another group and also my Freelance artists groups are starting to grow fast.  I have a lot of my art portfolio work that I can show here on this post. I am building my graphic 3d artist portfolio with both character that I can now animate as well I am going to load them with all of the correct shade materials in 3ds Max and Maya also as well I have retoplogized them with both Topogun and aslo in qremesher of zbrush also.   I have created enough to really get my portfolio with many styles. I then will import them all in both the Unity 3d game engine as well into the Unreal game engine and then use the images I pull out of there as well into  my low poly portfolios. I still need to re design the logo for Ken Sweckards VFX 3d Studios ad I will be building the studio domain and as well another website with some apps for the freelance artist site. On one of my Freelance artist wanted blog I am documenting the build and also and will be helping any of the freelance 3d artist group members with building there website design as well also helping them to start promoting there blogs portfolios and other freelance artists sites.  But for now I will show you some of my latest characters and works in progress to start, for example this was done in zbrush

These are in no particuler and are the doc pics as I modeled and sculpted him in the new zbrush

I did his Boady and then as well I made his sword

If you click on these you can see the detail that I have achieved  ...
This is my contact sheet showing my Roman character being done in
Here I used the zspheres to build the hands
I eventually qremeshed whole mesh added good edgeloops and it's about 25 K polys.

I will sculpt a bit more with  zbrushes  like the damn standard, the move, and maybe even the inflate to detail different parts of the 3d mesh with the model masked , unmasked etc.

Here is another look at this soldier of many characters that I have created over the last few weeks using digital sculpting technique in zbrush. I will also lower any of  the items with retopgun  which should get the character high poly model also has the low poly that I can animate in a game engine like Unity for example

I added this to it also to verify this blog in the blognetwork as well this proves it is my blog ! My other new blogs are located at ...   these following urls as well ....
Freelance Artists Jobs Blog
 Digital Sculpting and Modeling
 Freelance Art Jobs Discussions
Kenton Sweckards Art Page
Just started setting up a group for freelance artists and where people with freelance art jobs can post there as well !

Just because I posted this in haste I came back to update this today, and well this time I am posting as well a link to another artist that gives me quite a lot of inspiration ... his name is Mike Campau and I first saw his work a few years back. He has gotten better and better in the last two years.  So here are two of his recent projects and works .... The first is called Recharge  and this one uses both digital painting and manipulation as well as 3d modeling. The second being the Jewel of what I have seen of his work and as well he worked on this with another artist named Tim Tadder. This piece of work is called The Future of Sports and this one is beyond cool. this is just a mind blower and humbles me to my knees.  I am sure he is using Maya on this but I could be wrong and it could be 3ds max ... it is more then likely and autodesk program ... then again  parts of the screen look like pilgways 3d coat also.  No matter the program ... what he did with it is where the fat lady lends her vocals as this project could make most 3 in the towel and beg for a less fierce competitor.

Well this is my inspiration for my next work ... the lighting, the models, the composition and colors used as well the motion and energy he gets out of a still image rendering is beyond what I see most do in 3d design and digital graphics.  Before I forget I would also like to point you at my Behance network project galleries you can find the last one I posted here ... its a rather simple concept model though it shows the process I went through to get to the final digital sculpt of the Dire Wolf Sculpted in Zbrush.  Please follow my projects on behance and as well on Facebook just follow the links and like my pages or follow and share them.

3D Digital Art Sculpting and Character Concept Show Reels

Well a few days ago I started to work on my digital 3d character concepts show reel ... or well demo reel for work I do.  My intent is to show my skills in many different digital media applications and programs. I will finish my demo reel in Maya via and animation of my works that I modeled, sculpted textured  and painted in Zbrush, Maya, Blender 2.64 and Adobe Photoshop. If I decide to use more programs on this project I will mention them here as I go along and also put them in the credits of the demo reel. To start I did some rough sketches and sculpts of my ideas for the scenes I wish to create ... I have decided that I will do 3 scenes, and these are to all show off what I have learned in these programs as well to set moods and environments that change through the 3 different scenes as well to show character emotion through the animation  of the models that I created.  I will add some background sounds and music though the work should stand for itself with or without the sound. I am doing this as well as having a still art portfolio because the reality is that most people want the people modeling the assets and characters in 3d to also be able to and have a knowledge of the rigging and set up.  I do agree that a strong knowledge of a rigging character deformation in animation and topology are the difference between a character that has problems and one that works and is believable when it is animated.  But before I go to that extent I needed to decide how I would do all this, what the scenes would look like, environments, characters, landscape and assets ... etc  ...  So for my rough set up first off I went and found many reference photos of landscapes similar to the 3d landscape I will be modeling. Many that contain fish that will help me with my modeling and sculpting as well as corral, plants and anything else that will aid in my research and work.  After this we come to the point I am at now and that is setting up rough 3d sketches of these scenes. With rough models and landscaping for the scenes, I as well have been creating other brushes and materials for this project and planning any vfx for the animations. I also have been recording my work flow via digital images so I can show the documentation of what work I did along the way.  For example here are some rough sketches of my first scene digitally sculpted in Zbrush using dynamesh. For these sketches I used and outline and a sketch material from zbrush.

Again these are just some rough 3d concept sketches in zbrush.  These will all be modeled detailed colored and textured in zbrush then the models will be imported to maya for rigging ,animation, shading and lighting.  Some parts may be worked on in blender as well.

Here are the 3d rough models that will next be detailed in sbrush.

As you can see these are just rough models ... but this will give me a place to start from. After I do the texturing, the sculpting and the topology again if needed then I will make normal maps as well for export with the uvs textures and any other map that is needed .

I will post the next scene i n a day or so and let you see the rough draft of that as well some individual renders of some of my models working on in zbrush.

Well did some finish work on some models and some are what and where I want them to be others I am working on still in details and posing etc...  For example here is the first model and this one is what I was looking for, it is ready to transfer out of zbrush and into a new program for example maya or blender and do a little more before final renders.

as you can see here he is with and without jewelry etc ....
This is the next one it is my dire wolf model after adding some hair to him!  I will show more very soon of the latest zbrush work that I am doing. This last wolf I used the new hair and fibermesh system in zbrush.

Digital Sculpting Vampire Head and a Dire Wolf

Well it has been a  few weeks since I posted though here we go again !   This week I have some more personal work that I have been creating. The first being a vampire head I have been working on, in Zbrush. Currently I have poly painted parts of it ... added some place holder eyes etc ... It may not look like a lot from what I posted last time ... but there have been a lot of changes made to it. Here is where I am at now on the Vampire head.

This is before I poly painted it at all in Zbrush, I had added the eye balls here though. I will be working on the teeth this week, they are the only part borrowed ... the teeth and gums were done and sculpted in Zbrush just not all by me.  The bottom gums I did all of the top are a from the gnomon site.  And here we go with the poly painting started
I will be adding new teeth materials and sculpting them further soon. Etc !!!!  I have never done a male vampire so this is the first of the work so far. I am not sure where I will use this but I have a few ideas so far what to do with it ....  It may end up on stake out side the dire wolves den ....

And here is some more I Have sculpted in ZBrush the last two weeks !

I have a long ways to go on this one but the mesh is great so far, as well I have a good feeling about it as well !  Zbrush makes everything so easy as well Blender 2.6 that I modeled this in to start ...  Anyway I have a few other items I did also like a few trees that will go in the scene
and the full tree as well which I did about a week and a half ago plus a bunch of rocks LOL next I build a cave ....

I would appreciate if you like this work if you also liked my Face Book Digital 3D Art page also located here ...  Digital 3D Art    I also started a new Digital Sculpting page located here on Facebook as well Digital Sculpting ! Until next time have a Scary Day !

New digital and character art using the new Zbrush 4 R 3

Here are some of the images I have done in the last two weeks from works modeled in Zbrush 4R3 which is one of the most useful tools around. I have used other tools for example blender 2.6 which does have sculpting capabilities as well as 3d modeling abilities. But I would not have been able to make this in blender. First off I used the zsphere and zsphere 2 meshing capabilities and then sculpted from what I made using them. in the other case of the head that was a square turned into a circle and then later made into dynamesh.  here is a picture of the head I did ...

It is still a work in progress for now. I need to do the gums /teeth as well I need to material it in zbrush and then will do a texture painting for it as well ...  You can do almost all of it in zbrush at this point with the fiber mesh funtions can even do hair.

Also in Zbrush I sculpted the this Mansect and also at this point I have set up surface materials and will continue on with my work on it.
This is after I used zbrush to sculpt and draw it then I posed him better and skinned him in zbrush. Then well I will show you below.
First I used z spheres and z spheres 2  in order to form the mesh or skin. Then next as you after I get this shape I work some more and then next I skinned the mesh I had created.
This is the mansect after I did some more sculpting on the mesh again using zbrush 4r3. Here is also more of a sketch look of him using the black and white sketch  materials
and then well this is more pictures of him where I have currently gotten him to as well.
and from the front then after this from the side
I will post more again soon of this model as well as others.

Digital 3d Art Group on Facebook ! Zbrush, Blender 3D, Photoshop even Maya

Well this week in 3d digital art and artwork ~ I learned more about some new digital modeling and sculpting programs etc ..  But first off I have a new name for my 3d digital artwork page the link is pretty cool because I had over 25 people like it this last week. Plus as well I also added about 20 new followers on twitter for my digital artist twitter account. Well actually I now have about 35 or more new twitter followers !  As well I joined and started participating in many 3d artists and programs groups from Zbrush artists to blender artists, character artists groups on Linked and more. As well I worked on my sculpt and modeling of my turtle some more in both z brush and now in blender soon as well.

well this is where I started this documentation at in the beginning this 3d digital sculpt started as a sphere and then I added some cylinders for legs and head and then some more spheres that became joints to the latter parts of the legs and as well a head.

Legs were just spheres and and cylinders in zbrush Dynamesh !

As it gets re-meshed and the spheres and cylinders are joined Zbrush 4.2 dynamesh I sculpt more!

Then I start texturing and re-mesh at a higher resolution in zbrush r4.2b this is the model with a mask applied

After a bit more texturing in zbrush 4.2 still in dynamesh setting!

Still in dynamesh of zbrush 4.3 but now with red clay matcap !
I will be finishing this up very soon and will keep you up to date on my zbrush sculptures using dynamesh and as well other great feature of Zbrush and as well will import this over to blender 2.6 as well !  Zbrush is great for art and there are just so many things that you can do with it as well. Currently I am awaiting the arrival of a new stylus for my Wacom tablet so I can sculpt in details easier and then while I have been waiting I started preparing my pipeline with many different 3d apps and as well some great 3d game engines as well. I have not used the game engines yet but I have installed them on my workstation and have started to familiarize myself with them. honestly one is a lot like the interface to second life so it should not be really difficult I would assume.  As well I started my Google+ webpage called Digital 3D Art  Maybe next week I will share some of my art galleries and portfolios I have online for 3d digital artwork.
